I have just been reading several posts on other blogs concerning the out burst of Congressman Wilson during the president's speach to congress. What I read seems to center around a couple of issues:
1. Was the congressman out of line?
2. Are the Dems makign a mountain out of a mole hill?
3. Was this motivated by race.
I want to address the race issue 1st. I don't think what the congressman did had any more to do with race than what I had for breakfast this morning. Unfortunately with our 1st black president comes the political manuver of playing the race card on issues in which people disagree. This is sad and detracts from real racial issues that do exist.
Was the congressman out of line? No, he may have been more blunt than some folks are used to but he was not out of line. Congressman have been yelling comments during speaches and booing for a very long time. How is that any more out of line than what Conressman Wilson did?
Are the Dems making too much of this. Of course they are and if the tables were reversed the republicans would be doing the very same thing. Its called distraction, lets all get heated up over the congressman's comments one way or the other and we can take a little light off the real debate over health care. Make no mistake the democrats want you to be distracted so they can manuver and push through thier bill while we worry about the worng thing.
Also if you look at the context in which the president was denying the provision for covering illegal imigrants existed you have to question the rest of it which is also why teh dems are making a big fuss about this. The president was in teh midst of dispelling what he called scare tactics and fasleehoods. If this statemnet was wrong than was the rest of what he saying wrong as well? Was trhe president lying or does he not know what is actually in his bill?
Finaly lets talk about the congressman. I don't think what he said was wrong, in fact the white house fianlly said there was a provision to cover illegal imigrants, but I also think it was calculated. The congressman is runniing for re-election and this "outburst" has put new life in his campaign with increased, free media attention and donations. I also question his motives when he stood by silently as the govenor of his own state has proven to be moraly corrupt and mis used power in his state for personal reasons. But then again he and the govenor are form the same party. Don't get me wrong if they were democrats I don't think it would be any different.
