Back to a Republic

For several decades our country has been slowly moving farther and farther away from the founding principles we started with. This country was founded as a Republic not a Democracy as many of our fellow citizens beleive. There are even more of our fellow citizens that unfortunately don't even know there is a difference. But the difference is real and important.

Simply stated in a democracy the majority rules and all government issues are decided by a majority vote of the electorate, (that's you and me), plus 1. The rights of the individual or of a minority group are ignoreed completely.

A republic is: (quoted here from http://www.lexrex.com/enlightened/AmericanIdeal/aspects/demrep.htmll/aspects/demrep.html were you can read in more detail) a constitutionally limited government of the representative type, created by a written Constitution--adopted by the people and changeable (from its original meaning) by them only by its amendment--with its powers divided between three separate Branches: Executive, Legislative and Judicial. Here the term "the people" means, of course, the electorate. Sound familiar to anyone??

We elect people to office who are supposed to represent us and our best interests. More often than not our elected offials are too busy looking out for themselves from both a monetary and power standpoint. Iwill discuss this in future posts with some examples.

As I said at the begining we have strayed away from the principles our Republic was founded on and we are getting farther and farther away. With each new threat the country faces, financial collapse, health care, and terrorism to a name a few,  a freedom is infringed upon with our security and stability as the excuses. Now we face the new threat of radical social engineering which is the most serious threat we have faced so far and if left unchecked we will not live in either a deocracy or a republic but a communist state.

We have been desensitized over the years to this looming threat and we Americans our the true gaurdians of our country not the career politicians or the radicals on both sides of the political extreme. We gaurdians of our freedom have fallen asleep on gaurd duty and it is time to wake up.

Please read the copy of the DECLARATION OF INDEPENDANCE and the CONSTITUTION which I posted seperately below. They are our countries core principals and we need to return them.
